да уж, надо сначала самой учебник своего родного языка для иностранцев проштудировать. Спасибо за советы. Уже сама поняла, что дело это очень нелегкое - не зря это на отдельных факультетах в вузах изучается.

А родной у нее немецкий. Хотя у нее и в/о, но с грамматическими понятиями типа "подлежащее", "предлог", "спряжение" она не очень знакома - не филолог.

Китайский и японский не учила, но люди, которые это делили мне говорили, что разговорный язык очень легкий, а вот с письмом и чтением, действительно намного сложнее :-)

The category of gender in Russian is based solely on a formal principal. It means that even if a word denotes a male person (papa) the grammatical forms of the word will reflect the feminine gender. The masculine "essence" of such words is seen in their argeement with pronouns :moj papa, s moim (Masc) papoj (Fem).

Nope. Chinese is the easiest one. True, characters and tones are kind of hard to internalize, but then there is NO GRAMMAR! Words don't change, there is no "idet-shla" problem. There would be a separate word for "walking", another one for "Feminine", and another one for the Past Tense. And they just go one after another, like beads on a string. Hungraian is the most difficult one, even more difficult than Russian.

No kidding! My heart goes out to my students!

It's hard for a native speaker of the language to teach this language, because we just take so many things for granted. Try to explain why there are three different nominal endings in Genitive Plural, or what exactly is the difference between Perfective and Imprefective aspect on top of your head, and you'll know what I am talking about. Seven years of teaching experience and they still puzzle me with their "Why?" questions.
