Сегодня получили домашнее задание следующего типа.

What's wrong?
Students and non-native speakers sometimes use strange expressions. Correct the following sentences which are grammaticaly wrong. (Sometimes there may be more than one correct answer)

Пожалуйста помогите исправить ошибки. Если не будет трудно объясните почему так, а не так.Заранее спасибо.

1. we are invited to her wedding (marriage - брак. нельзя быть приглашенным на брак)

2. I apologize for disturbing you. (извиняешься ЗА что-то)
3. he asked FOR more money
4. We appreciate YOUR kindness (мы ценим вашу доброту - то, что ценим ВАС как бы само имеется в виду)
5. тут много как можно сказать.
6. тут зависит от контекста. может быть He was absent on a business trip (в командировке его не было - к примеру если группой ехали) или He was absent because of a business trip (его где-то не было, потому что в командировку укатил)

7. Обычно говорят - see you tomorrow morning.
8. I love Korea, Especially in the spring
9. The result is satisfactory. (результат не удовлетворен - satisfied, а удовлетворительный)
10.It is not allowed to smoke here - не вижу проблемы в предложении, так говорят (в штатах, по кр.мере). можно сказать - smoking is not allowed here. Если уж придираться.
11. I'll marry you if you'll stop smoking
12 She died in a traffic accident.
13. I have difficulties persuading her. Просто так звучит правильно - почему - хз.

14. They sent it TO me
15. Do you know HOW to make coffee?
16. Вижу несколько легитимных вариантов - I'm learning to drive. I'm learning how to drive a car.
17. The cost is high. OR: This is expensive
18. бред какой-то. Может, appoitment at 6?

19. MOst people are afraid of death. (большинство людей)
21. His English is very good.
22. She's not telling the truth.

23. The company is very incompetent in the fast-food market. Звучит неправильно, но я не знаю как правильно, и что вообще они хотели этим сказать :).
24. He became mad when he heard the news. He became angry when he heard the news.
25. She drives very fastly. She drives very fast.
26. I don't know he is honest. I am not sure if he is honest.
27. He didn't mind to show me the way to the hotel. He didn't mind showing me the way tot he hotel.
28. Did you go to swim yesterday? Did you go swimming yesterday?
29. He's busy to read books. He is busy reading a book.
30. They're doing their best to search missing people in the accident. They are doing their best searching for the people missing after the accident.

Объяснить я ничего не могу, я английский специально не изучала. Просто мне так звучит правильнее :). За 100%-ую правильность не ручаюсь :).

Прошу прощения, а почему "Mini-skirst HAVE recently gained popularity among young women.", а не "has"?

Можно и я влезу с вопросом? Когда иностранец (японец) подписывается Yours, N это что-то значит или этот обычная подпись ничего особенно не значащая? Вопрос смешной, но важный для меня.

Обычная, стандартная, достаточно распространенная форма вежливости:) Ничего "такого":)

очень жаль... :-( раньше он так никогда не подписывался...

На самом деле никто Вам не сможет точно сказать, что хотел сказать этим Yours японец... Я вот русская :-), и тоже иногда так подписываюсь с неким оттенком... просто чуть более близкого отношения.

Увы :) Бывают еще подписываются - Sincerely yours, Truly yours etc. Хотя кто этих японцев знает ;))

росто я действительное видимо хочу выдать за желаемое. Вот мне и мерещется наверное. Раньше он писал просто N и все, а тут вдруг Yours...

Думала что может такое выражение не норма... Эх

Нравится, еще как. А флюиды... как их через нет ощутишь? :-(

Я в ТД тему даже завела "Помогите с достоинством выйти из положения", все там конечно очень сумбурно, но впринципе смысл моего вопроса я думаю понятен. :-(

В придаточном предложении с If будущее время не употребляется: I'll you if you stop smoking.

да, это самая обычная подпись у носителей, как в России "с уважением". А неносители...кто их знает...

allowed to smoke here. (глагол allow требует дополнения (субъект, которому "позволено" делать что-то - напр. it is not allowed you to smoke here или субстантивной формы как в первом примере)

Я думаю, что в предложении про бизнесс трип имеется в виду: He is AWAY for a business trip.

А говорят "traffic accident"? Как-то это звучит... ммм... тяжеловато. Может, She died in a CAR accident?

А про книги тоже не совсем однозначная фраза. То ли имеется в виду, что He is too busy to read books (в смысле, что он слишком занят, чтобы читать книги), то ли, действительно, He is busy reading books (a book) - он занят чтением книг(и).

Точно! Скорее всего первое - у него нет времени, чтобы читать.

Как спросить у человека - служил ли он в армии?

Have you been in the army? Возможно так. или in the ranks of the army.. Помните песню: "You're in the army now!"

Как я уже предупреждала, я не далеко не знаток, просто живу здесь :), но 13, 16, и 30 мне не звучат правильно :). 13 16 как-то очень по-эммигрантски звучат, что ли, а 30, мне кажется, вообще имеет другой смылс - searching missing people, по-моему (опять же, не претендую на абсолютную правоту) я бы поняла как обыскивают пропавших людей, а когда ищут кого-то, то searching for somebody. А 6 - Вы правы, скорей всего, это имеет больше смысла, чем мой вариант :).

А, неносители очень стараются всегда от носителей не отличатся. Абсолютно ничего не значит такой конец письма.

По-эммигрантски для кого? для американцев? Я изучала не америк. англ, а брит., так что вполне могут быть разные мнения. в последнем предложении я пропустила for, sorry, акцентируя внимание на предлоге in перед searching. Скажу честно, сомневаюсь по поводу №16.

Это я понимаю. Но там же единств.число.

А, поняла, просто буквы переставлены:)

Это, вообще-то, и есть не вставайте. Типа, когда учитель входит в класс, то говорит: сидите, сидите, не вставайте. Может, вы имели ввиду dont's give up? Тогда это - не сдавайся, не отступай от намеченной цели.
