$$$ Repairwear Day SPF 15 Intensive Cream ($45 for 1.7 ounces) is an excellent, in-part zinc oxide sunscreen in a moisturizing base that's characteristic of the latest round of moisturizers from Clinique. That means the formula contains an impressive blend of silicones, slip agents, potent antioxidants, water-binding agents, and plant extracts. Although some of the plant extracts can be problematic, they are present in small amounts and the beneficial plant extracts have them outnumbered. Clinique maintains that Repairwear "helps block and mend the look of lines and wrinkles," though that's true only to the extent that an effective sunscreen (which this product contains) can prevent further skin damage. As well-formulated as this product is, please don't be fooled into thinking it can repair your skin and eliminate wrinkles, or you're bound to be disappointed. The fact that this is described as an intensive cream may make you think it is for very dry skin, but it's actually best for normal to dry skin. Those with very dry skin will likely prefer a richer, more emollient product. By the way, although I admire many of Clinique's latest moisturizer formulations, I can't help but comment that the prices for Clinique's moisturizers have steadily increased. Clinique used to be one of the most affordable department store skin-care lines to shop, but their current pricing trend has them catching up to parent company Estee Lauder and competitor Lancome.
$$$ Repairwear Day SPF15 Intensive Lotion ($45 for 1.7 ounces) shares the same in-part zinc oxide sunscreen as the Repairwear product above, but this product comes in a lighter-weight lotion base, which is better for normal to slightly dry or slightly oily skin types. Otherwise, the same formulary and price comments made above apply here, too. One advantage this product has over the Repairwear Intensive SPF 15 Cream is its packaging. The lotion is housed in an opaque bottle with a pump applicator, which nicely helps preserve the antioxidants, while the cream above comes in a jar, so that air exposure during each use will eventually degrade the antioxidants. |
